The Retiree Council met on this date at 1300 hours. The following Board of Directors were present, Vice President Fred Gustin, Treasurer Ron Kroon, Secretary Jerry Chenoweth. Members at Large. Al Peate, Ollie Sapp, and John Bailey.
Fred called the meeting to order. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. There were no additions or corrections. The minutes stand as read.
Treasurer’s report was given by Ron. We have 582 members of which 59 are widows.
OLD BUSINESS:
The Council office received thank you cards from the families of deceased members Dale Fry and Roger Fosbender for the memorial donation sent. Also received was a thank you card from the Nebraska Air National Guard for the monetary donation to the children’s Holiday party.
Fred gave us an update on the TAG briefings; they are scheduled for 31 March thru 2 April 2006. The schedule and the planned agenda is on page two of this minutes. Fred will attend these briefings to represent the Council. A motion was made by Al to provide Fred $150 for expenses for lodging and travel. The motion was seconded by Ollie and the motion passed. No word on the Lincoln-Omaha briefing as of yet.
NEW BUSINESS:
The Retirees office is now shared with Lt. Kane who is a recruiter for the Guard. We have worked out an arrangement to use the office on Wednesday mornings.
The Family Program Office has now moved across the street to the 1776 building. The entrance is on the South side and there are no steps to reach their office. So far there has been no progress in creating a web site for their office. They are planning to have a link to the Council web site.
The Family Program Office has asked for help on Wednesdays to help pick up prescriptions at Offutt. The person that volunteers would be able to ride to and from Offutt and would have to buy their own lunch. This help would consist of checking out the prescriptions. If anyone could help with this; contact SPC Michelle DeGarmo at 402-309-7332 or 800-432-6778.
Al had some information given to him by one of our Council members. It concerned the building of a rehabilitation hospital for veterans and military personal in San Antonio, TX. This was being built with private funds and they are looking for funding from the private sector. Until further examination of this project can be made a motion was made by Ollie not to donate any money at this time. The motion was seconded by Ron, the motion passed.
John presented the fact we need more help on Wednesday mornings to man the office. We will put out the call to see if some of our Council members can help with this task.
The Family Program Office is planning some State wide events that need to be privately funded. A request to the Council for a monetary donation was made. We need more information on this event and will be working with the National Guard Association on this event. Al made the motion to table this request until next meeting. John seconded the motion and it passed.
As there was no more business to come before the Council, the meeting was adjourned.
