The Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States is pleased to offer their support for S.1075 and H.R. 2427 which seek to postpone the implementation of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process.
EANGUS represents the Enlisted members of the National Guard in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Along with our colleagues from NGAUS we are very concerned about the effects of BRAC on the Air National Guard. Over twenty Air National Buard units will be directly impacted by the loss of aircraft and six states are slated to have no Air National Guard flying missions at all.
With the increased role of the Air National Guard in Homeland Defense missions, supported by the state Governors, we remain puzzled that the State Adjutants General were not included in the process and information used in determining base realignments and closures has not yet been provided to members of Congress or the Governors.
The fact that there has been no detailed plan made available on how the realignment process will work and on what missions will replace those taken from these Air National Guard units is cause for alarm for us and for the communities affected.
We thank the Senator and Congresswoman for their support of this issue. |
